HearText Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how HearText (“the App”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use our Android application. HearText is a read-and-listen ebook app that lets you import books, browse a catalog, read offline, and listen with text-to-speech.
1. Information We Collect
Depending on how you use the App, we may process:
- Account information. If you sign in, authentication is handled by Clerk. We may receive identifiers such as your user ID and email address needed to keep you signed in and sync your data.
- Library and reading progress. Book metadata, reading position, chapter progress, and related sync data may be stored on your device and, when you are signed in, synced with our servers.
- App settings. Preferences such as language, typography, and listening settings are stored on your device.
- Diagnostics and crash data. We use Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash logs and technical diagnostics (for example device model, OS version, and stack traces) to improve stability. Debug builds may disable crash reporting by default.
- Support communications. If you contact us by email, we receive whatever information you choose to send.
2. Information We Do Not Sell
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your book contents or reading history for advertising.
3. How We Use Information
- Provide reading, listening, catalog, and sync features
- Authenticate your account and restore progress across devices
- Improve reliability and fix crashes
- Respond to support requests and meet legal obligations
4. Where Data Is Stored
- On device. Imported books, offline voice packs, local library data, and preferences are stored locally.
- On our servers. If you sign in, account-linked library and progress information may be synced to our backend.
- Service providers. Clerk (authentication) and Google Firebase Crashlytics (crash reporting) process data on our behalf to operate those features.

6. Data Retention
Local data remains on your device until you delete the App or clear App data. Account and synced data are retained while your account is active, or until you request deletion. Crash diagnostics are retained according to Firebase Crashlytics retention settings.
7. Your Choices
- You can use many reading features without signing in
- You can sign out or delete the App to remove local data from the device
- You may request account or synced-data deletion by contacting us
8. Children’s Privacy
HearText is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
9. International Users
Our service providers may process data in the United States or other countries. By using the App, you understand that your information may be transferred to those locations.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
