Delete your HearText account
This page explains how to request deletion of your HearText account and the data associated with it. You can delete your account from inside the app, or by contacting us.
1. Delete from the app (recommended)
- Open the HearText Android app.
- Sign in with the account you want to delete.
- Go to Profile (or Me).
- Tap Delete account and confirm.
This removes your HearText account access and associated cloud data we store for that account, subject to the retention notes below.
2. Delete by email
If you cannot use the in-app option, email heartext@fastmail.com from the same email address used for your HearText account.
Please include:
- Subject line: HearText account deletion request
- The email address registered with your account
- Optional: your Clerk / account user ID if you know it
We will verify ownership of the account and process the request. We aim to complete deletion within 30 days.
3. What data is deleted
When your account is deleted, we delete or permanently de-identify:
- Account identifiers used for sign-in (for example email and auth user ID)
- Cloud-synced library / book records linked to your account
- Cloud-synced reading and listening progress linked to your account
- Other server-side profile or sync data we store for your account
4. What may be retained
- On your device: Locally imported books, offline voice packs, and local preferences remain on the device until you uninstall HearText or clear app data. Deleting your account does not automatically wipe files already stored on the phone.
- Crash diagnostics: Anonymous crash reports already sent to Firebase Crashlytics may be retained according to Google Firebase retention settings and are not used to identify you after account deletion.
- Legal / security records: We may retain limited records if required by law, to resolve disputes, or to prevent abuse, for as long as necessary.
5. Data deletion without deleting your account
You can remove local books and some local data from the app without deleting your account (for example by deleting books from your library or clearing app storage). Account-level cloud data is removed when you delete the account as described above.
